This might be the ultimate drag race between the best of the old school vs the new era of electric performance vehicles with the iconic and insanely fast 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 vs a brand new Tesla Model S Plaid, the champagne of electric vehicles!
We have covered a couple of these epic drag races hosted by Hoonigan in the past, we can't seem to get enough of them, but this time around, the boys have put up the mighty Tesla Model S Plaid up against a car that is dear to many hears in the car community, the iconic Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 that is modded up to make 650 HP!
The Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 was the last of the GT-Rs to still carry the Skyline name and for over 2 decades, it has remained the king of all tuner cars. But, the question has to be asked: Just how well will this 1999 modified Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 hold up against the brand new and ridiculously fast 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid?
Well, let's break both of the cars down on paper first shall we?
The 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid that we have here makes a hypercar-like 1,020 HP from its 3 electric motors, has a 1-speed automatic gearbox (which will prove to be highly advantageous in a drag race for obvious reasons), has an all-wheel drive system but its biggest downfall is its weight which is a whopping 4,828 LBS (or 2190 KG).
The 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, on the other hand, makes 650 HP from its RB26DETT turbocharged engine, has a GETRAG 6-speed manual gearbox, weighs in at a significantly lighter 3,432 LBS (or 1,557 KG) and also has an all-wheel drive system.
So who will take the cake between the 23-year-old 650 HP Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 or the brand new 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid in a drag race? Well, on paper it looks like it's heading the way of the Tesla Model S Plaid, but don't let the figures above fool you just yet!
