A QUICK LOOK AT THE 2017 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 HIGH COUNTRY

The 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country provides us with luxury and success. 

This High Country model is the top-of-the-line Silverado 1500 truck in the Chevy lineup. It comes with almost every extra you can imagine. Continuing to battle with Ford for full-size truck supremacy, the 2017 Silverado boasts its steel body construction vs. the aluminium used by Ford!

The High Country's top competitors include the Ford F150, the Ram 1500 and the Toyota Tundra. At the moment, the base price for this model sits at $56,270 and the As-Tested price is $66,755. 

Perhaps the biggest highlight when it comes to this Chevy High Country is the power foldout running boards to climb into the high-rise cabin. 

A writer from Autoweek had this to say about the 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country:

"The High Country trim is as nice as you can make a Silverado from the factory, and it shows. The cabin is well-appointed and about on par with the King Ranch offerings from Chevy’s crosstown rival. The nearly ostentatious chrome wheels might make it obvious to your contractor friends that you don’t actually need your truck to hit the jobsite and if you do, you'll take your pedestrian work truck. Instead, the High Country Silverado is the mall-crawler and dinner-getter that you’d want in place of a full-size luxury sedan -- albeit one with a 6.2-liter V8, eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

That said, if you do need to do any work, the High Country should be able to handle it. The 6.2-liter V8's 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque should let you haul just about anything short of a semitrailer -- around a ton of payload and close to 18,000 pounds of trailer, depending on configuration. Power delivery is linear and pulls through the rev range, falling off only after hitting peak numbers at 5,600 rpm. It's not a substitute for your 'Vette or your Camaro, but if you had to haul some plywood and still want something that hauls the mail, this can do it. 

Between the cushy seats and relatively soft suspension, driving this Silverado feels a bit like driving a '70s full-size sedan. You might not glide over every bump, but most won't make you spill your coffee, and there's only a minor shudder through the frame. Corners result in predictable body roll, but everything is well-controlled. 

The rub is this truck's nearly $70K price tag. Sure, it’s nice -- and it does all the things you’d want your upscale SUV to do and has the option to haul a quad or a motorcycle, but it’s still a pricey rig. Heck, you could find a less luxe 2500HD for about the price of this half-ton, but with much more utility.

Then again, if you’ve only got space for one vehicle or insist that your luxury car have a pickup bed, the Silverado High Country delivers a bowtie-clad solution. "
