THE ACURA RSX IS BACK AS A PROTOTYPE - NOW ITS AN ELECTRIC PERFORMANCE SUV - AS EXPECTED.

Acura has dusted off one of its most iconic badges, but the reborn RSX looks nothing like the tight, high-revving coupe that once carried the name. Instead, the RSX Prototype previews Acura’s next-generation all-electric model: a bold, coupe-styled performance SUV finished in an arresting Propulsion Yellow Pearl that drew serious attention at Monterey Car Week. The original RSX - and its close cousin, the Honda Integra Type R - earned a cult following for its razor-sharp handling, rev-happy motor, and raw driving feel. The new RSX Prototype takes a different path entirely, showcasing Acura’s electrified future while keeping the brand’s Precision Crafted Performance mantra alive. There’s a lot of marketing talk about the new RSX and the use of the nameplate, but this is one of those cars that shouldn’t be talked about at a braai with real JDM and Japanese car fanatics, or you’ll have a long-winded shpiel about how the car should have had a different name and that an RSX shouldn’t be electric.

Expected to hit production in the second half of 2026, the RSX will be the first model built on Honda’s all-new, in-house EV platform. It’ll also roll off the line at Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, the same facility that builds the Acura Integra, demonstrating Honda’s flexible approach where internal combustion, hybrid, and full-electric vehicles can share production lines. The RSX Prototype is dramatic from every angle. Its fastback coupe-inspired roofline, integrated ducktail spoiler, and aggressive proportions make it clear this isn’t just another cookie-cutter SUV.

Key highlights:

Wide, athletic stance with flared wheel arches and massive 21-inch multi-spoke alloys.

Red Brembo brakes peeking through the rims for serious stopping power.

Flush door handles and deeply sculpted sides that play with light and shadow.

A bold reinterpretation of Acura’s Diamond Pentagon grille, paired with a new split-headlight design with razor-thin DRLs and low-mounted LED lamps.

Out back, a full-width taillight bar pays homage to the second-gen NSX, capped with fresh “ACURA” lettering across the tailgate.

The end result is a vehicle that pushes Acura’s design language further into the EV era - sleek, muscular, and dripping with modern style. Unlike some electric concepts that are all talk and no torque, the RSX promises legit performance hardware:

Dual-motor all-wheel drive for instant response and grip.

Double wishbone front suspension tuned for agility.

Low centre of gravity thanks to the skateboard-style EV platform.

Brembo brakes are standard, because power is nothing without control.

Acura hasn’t revealed final output figures yet, but the RSX is positioned as a true performance SUV - more than just another luxury EV commuter. The RSX will debut ASIMO OS, Acura’s new global operating system named after Honda’s famous humanoid robot. This isn’t just an infotainment upgrade - it’s the brain that ties together everything from advanced driver-assistance systems to in-car personalisation.

Highlights include:

Machine learning to adapt to driver behaviour and preferences (think playlists, drive modes, even navigation habits).

Over-the-air updates, keeping the car fresh long after delivery.

A smartphone-like app ecosystem designed to make the RSX as customizable as your daily tech.

Basically, the RSX won’t just move you physically - it’ll adapt to you digitally. As part of Honda’s broader carbon-neutrality goals, the SUV doubles as a mobile energy storage unit. That means it can power appliances, charge devices, or even keep your home running during an outage.

While purists may mourn the fact that the new RSX shares more in common with an electric SUV than the featherweight Integra Type R of old, Acura insists this is still a car infused with nearly four decades of performance DNA. Bold styling, cutting-edge tech, and an electrified drivetrain mean the RSX is less about looking backwards and more about pushing Acura into its next chapter.
