THE HOONIGAN INDUSTRIES-BUILT 2JZ FORD F150 - LORD FRIGHTENING - GOES UP FOR SALE ONLINE

When the crew at Hoonigan Industries decides to build something, you know it’s going to be quite special with a very heavy helping of Daaaaaaaamn, and this listing we found over at BringATrailer.com just happens to be one of these special builds. The best part is that if you have enough money, you too can be the owner of a car built by this legendary group of guys. They’ve done many projects, all of them cool, but the one that’s listed on the online auction is the 2000 Ford F-150 XL with the nickname “Lord Frightening”, which has to be the best play on words for an F150 Ford Lightning. This one was a tribute built to honour Paul Walker because he had one in the original Fast and the Furious movie back in 2001. Scary that it’s 22 years ago already. To give the truck a proper movie car feel with a spec that Paul would have loved, the original powerplant was chucked in favour of something with Japanese flavour, the iconic 2JZ. As expected it wasn’t just a basic engine swap, all the right bits were used to make it a fast and reliable shop truck, of sorts. Lord Frightening has fresh paint, done by the previous owner, and wears blue 19-inch Volk Racing TE37 wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes Sport and Nitto NT05R tyres and the Japanese wheels look oddly at home on the US truck. Behind these, you’ll find Baer Extreme 6S calipers with slotted and drilled discs, and that lower ride height comes courtesy of Belltech shocks and springs. There are also Lightning-style bumper covers and side skirts, a rear sliding window, Altezza-style taillights, custom “Frightening” decals, and a flareside bed equipped with side steps and a drop-in bed liner.

In the cabin, you’ll find a set of Sparco Racing R333 bucket seats re-upholstered in black cloth, and they match the Sparco steering wheel fitted. There’s a Stack Gauges digital instrument cluster and an AutoMeter Phantom tachometer with additional gauges for boost pressure, air-fuel ratio, and voltage mounted to the A-pillar. The Hoonigan Chase Bays handbrake is a cool central feature. The cabin was sound-deadened with Thermo-Tec to make the MTX sound system, headed up with a Soundstream head unit, work as it should. That aforementioned 2JZ sees fitment of a Garrett G-Series G30-770 turbo, a full set of Haltech ignition coils, a GReddy intake manifold, K&N air filter, and a Haltech Elite 2000 ECU with cooling sorted with a large Mishimoto radiator secured by a custom upper radiator support. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission and a Currie rear axle. The setup has been tuned to a healthy yet reliable, and pretty mild for a 2JZ-swapped setup these days, of 500 hp at the wheels. That’s a decent jump over the 360 hp at the crank that the old supercharged 5.4-litre V8 made. It’s a great build and something that will appeal to many motoring fanatics out there, especially with the dual selling points of being a Hoonigan car and also a Paul Walker tribute. At the time of writing, the bid on the car was at a decent $12000 with a week to go before the auction closes. It will be interesting to see what the final selling price will be.

Take a look at the YouTube video done by the guys who actually built the truck that's just gone up for sale on the Bring a Trailer online auction website. Here you can see just how much work, time and effort went into this unorthodox build to result in a pretty damn cool version of Ford's popular F150 pickup: We Finish Lord Frightening!
