THE KIMERA AUTOMOBILI EVO37 IS THE LANCIA 037 TRIBUTE OF DREAMS

The Kimera 037 is a tribute car, a reworking of the infamous Lancia Stradale 037 Group B rally car that became a legend when it managed to clinch the World Rally title back in 1983 from the all-wheel drive Audi Quattro, even though it’s power was only sent to the rear wheels. The Lancia 037 is a sought after car, and because there were only a smidge over 200 of them created for homologation purposes and some have been lost to motorsport incidents the numbers are smaller and the values are higher. Kimmera Automobili are clearly fans of this insane era of racing, and the 037 in particular and so the bespoke automaker set about recreating a modern version of the classic race car. Their version, the Kimera 037, has a silhouette that any Group B or Lanca fan will recognise, but that’s pretty much where the similarities end. This project saw the latest production techniques involved, what you see here is the end result of reverse engineering, 3D scanning, CAD work, CAE work, rapid prototyping of component, CNC milling, sintering, top-of-the-line electronics and the latest technologies to control the engine, steering, and traction.

After all was said and done, the final production version of the Kimera 037 is a pure work of art, functional art. The car has to be one of the best tribute cars to ever exist, it’s no wonder collectors the world over are trying to get their hands on one of the 37 units destined for production. A few have already taken delivery of their bespoke masterpieces. Besides the looks and updated technology, there’s also much better power on tap than the car this has been modelled on. The Kimera 037 tips the scales at pretty much an even ton, and it features a 4-cylinder engine that sees boost pressures enter the mix from both a Roots-type supercharger as well and a turbocharger. This results in just over 370 kW with 550 Nm of torque. The 037 employs a 6-speed manual transmission and as with the classic car, power is sent to the rear wheels only. This means 0-100 km/h can be achieved in as little as 4.0-seconds and will top out just over 300 km/h.

One of these limited number cars will set you back roughly R8 500 000 (£410,500), but we’re pretty sure the full allocation of 37 units has already been spoken for. We know that as of the beginning of 2022, eleven had already been delivered to customers.
