WAY COOL - THE BENTLEY FLYING SPUR SPEED SHATTERS THE ICE WITH A WINTER LAP RECORD AT FäLLFORS
When most people think “winter driving,” they picture cautious scraping of windshields and ginger-footed treks across icy roads. Bentley? They think full-throttle, lap-record, snow-flying mayhem. The Flying Spur Speed just rewrote the Arctic rulebook, setting a blistering new winter lap record at the world’s northernmost active race circuit: Drivecenter Arena in Fällfors, Sweden - just 160 km shy of the Arctic Circle. The track, a former military airbase, was blanketed in 12 inches of ice and snow, yet the Flying Spur Speed carved through it in under three minutes, the best lap clocking in at 2:58. That’s the fastest any car has ever navigated the frozen 3.3 km circuit, with peak speeds hitting 193 km/h on a 450-metre sheet-ice straight. The car behind this frozen feat wasn’t just powerful - it was precise. The Flying Spur Speed’s variable all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering turned a slippery nightmare into a controlled ballet of torque and traction, with the Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain delivering a combined 575 kW and 1,000 Nm. The setup blends a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a 140 kW electric motor, giving the car instant torque, a cross-plane V8 growl, and the ability to glide in pure EV mode for 76 km. All-wheel steering, Bentley Dynamic Ride, torque vectoring and a mechanically optimised 48.3:51.7 rear-biased weight distribution made the impossible achievable, even with stability controls turned off.
