THE TOYOTA GR SUPRA JR ROADSTER FINALLY MAKES IT'S FIRST PASS - AT THE HANDS OF TOP FUEL DRIVER ANTRON BROWN. NICE.

It was just the other day we reminded y’all that there’s a half-size Toyota Supra dragster out there, and in a strange coincidence, it’s back in NHRA news. Toyota has been collaborating with NHRA for over 20 years, with those previous drag racing collaborations leading to the development of the car you see in action here, the GR Supra Jr. Roadster, a half-sized Supra dragster designed by Toyota and TRD, U.S.A. for junior drag racing. As we’ve mentioned before, the Jr. Roadster was developed for the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League to encourage families to involve their kids in drag racing at a young age. The car has a shorter wheelbase than the dragster, making it easier to transport in the bed of a Tundra. According to Paul Doleshal, group manager of Toyota Racing, "The motivation behind developing the GR Supra Jr. Roadster nearly two years ago was primarily around the concept of giving families an alternative to the already-popular Jr. Dragster class within NHRA."

The GR Supra Jr. Roadster was unveiled in November 2021 in the look for the new Funny Cars of J.R. Todd, Alexis DeJoria, and Ron Capps to compete in the 2022 season. Well, that didn’t happen for reasons we don’t know of which is odd considering the fanfare related to the Jr car. Antron Brown, Toyota Top Fuel driver and a key collaborator in the development of the Jr. Roadster, he said, "The addition of the Jr. Roadster class is important for so many reasons, but the primary objective for all of us that have been involved in its development was to give families an option that doesn’t require a trailer or additional costs to bring the car to the track and these will give them that opportunity." Anton is still heavily involved with these junior classes and so made sure to be the driver of the first GR Supra Jr. Roadster to make an 8th-mile pass. This took place on the 20th of March and the car made a pass of 7.65 seconds, which ironically was too fast for the class and would have resulted in a disqualification had it been a real knock-out event. It will be cool to see more of these on track in the near future.

Take a look at the YouTube video, albeit very short, of the very first proper pass of the Toyota GR Supra Jr Dragster in public at the hands of previous development driver and NHRA Top Fuel driver Antron Brown: Antron Brown makes FIRST pass in the Toyota GR Supra Jr Roadster | NHRA
