ACTIVE AERO, MILES OF CARBON FIBRE AND 643 KW AIMED AT ALL FOUR WHEELS - THE HOONIGAN SUBARU WAGON IS FIRE.

Ken Block set up the most watched car videos on YouTube through his Gymkhana series of videos, and the time eventually came for him to hang up his driving gloves and pass the reins on to someone else. That someone had to be equal parts madman and race driver with a large helping of brass man bits, and with that description there’s only a handful of people on the planet fit to carry the Gymkhana name high. Enter stuntman legend, FMX boss and all round awesome guy Travis Pastrana. The man has full on legend status, and he’s set to elevate that even more being nominated as the replacement driver for Ken Block in the Gymkhana series of videos. Why are we reminding you of this? Because the latest video in the series drops in less than a week on the 6th December 2022. While the driver and the driving is always a highlight of the videos, the location and the car are a huge part of what makes the videos achieve viral status. For this instalment the Hoonigan crew heads to what we guess is Florida, and the star car is a 1983 Subaru GL wagon, but it’s been through the full racecar treatment and the only remnants of the original 80s wagon is the body shape, sorta.

The Subaru has been dubbed ‘The Family Huckster” and it’s one of the most well put together race cars we’ve seen all year. Everything is custom, EVERYTHING. While the full specs aren’t common knowledge, the engine and suspension setup used for the wagon draws experience from the Subaru used in competition in Rally Cross, but tweaked a little for optimal use for the style of driving needed to produce a viral Gymkhana video. All the same tech in the tried and tested 2.0 boxer had been shoved into a larger capacity EJ-based 2.4-litre billet block that also sees a pair of billet cylinder heads attached. There’s a front-mount Garrett turbocharger providing boost and the build is made to live at the 8 200 rpm redline. The Reiger Suspension is the same as used in the Rally Cross Subaru and it allows for enough travel when coping with yumps and jumps and terrain changes while not bottoming out but still allowing maximum traction from all four wheels. It’s hands down the best Subaru wagon in the world, and one of the most comprehensively built race cars we’ve not only seen this year, but ever. When you have a Hoonigan-sized budget anything is possible. We cannot wait to see it in action in the upcoming Gymkhana release in a week's time!

Take a look at the YouTube video showing off the finer details of this insane project that's resulted in the undisputed coolest Subaru wagon to ever be created and will no doubt be the star of many upcoming hooning videos and viral shenanigans: Subaru's ULTIMATE Gymkhana Wagon: 862hp, Carbon Everything, Active Aero, and More | Hoonigan
