MERCEDES-AMG GT R GEARS UP FOR DUTY IN 'TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT'
You probably figured that Transformers: Age of Extinction would have been the nail in the coffin for the long-running film franchise, waving its goodbyes and limping off into obscurity for good. But you’d be wrong—considering it broke all kinds of box office records, mostly in China, and paved the way for the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight.
Like any good Transformers flick, the cars will again be a mainstay feature in this one. We’ve already seen Bumblebee’s garish new makeover, as well as the aggressive Barricade Ford Mustang. Now, the samurai-sword wielding character, Drift, has a new set of wheels in the form of the Mercedes-AMG GT R,. The news comes by way of director Michael Bay’s Twitter feed.
The GT R features a 577-horsepower Biturbo V8, new aerodynamics from the fascia, to the side sills, to the rear diffuser (evolved from its standard GT sibling), and a track-focused persona, considering Mercedes touted it as the “Beast of the Green Hell.”
For the film, it will be ditching its green exterior in place of a sinister new red and black getup. The wheels follow suit with a jet black finish and red accents. All said and done, it looks like Drift is going to be a character to look out for when Transformers: The Last Knighthits theaters in 2017.
