THE BENTAYGA S BLACK EDITION IS HOW ALL LUXURY SUVS SHOULD LOOK.

The Bentley Bentayga has been around for nearly ten years now, it was a surprise release from the British luxury automaker. While the world was starting to lap up SUVs, some of the major players were still a little hesitant but Bentley dropped the Bentayga on the world and proved that you can have all the luxury of a Bentley added into an SUV, and even give it some decent power. Bentley has always been about style and the UK-based automaker managed to give the SUV styling that matches the Continental’s design architecture, and that’s surely a big reason that it’s racked up thousands and thousands of sales. There have been a few iterations of the car in its short lifetime, and while they’re available in a set spec, thanks to the Mulliner Coachworks side of the business, there are many wildly different versions around. The customisation options available are quite literally endless, and they’re carried out to perfection. The best of the Bentaygas was recently revealed by the luxury automaker, the one-of-one Private White V.C. Bentayga that was built as a homage to British war hero, Private Jack White V.C. It features all the best bits from Mulliner along with some special design cues. The coolest Bentayga we’ve seen released is the one you see here, the Bentayga S Black Edition. We say this because we like dark and sinister-looking cars, especially when they have matching dark wheels and a great interior. This here writer has a penchant for orange and black things, and the ultra-luxurious interior of this dark Bentayga features orange highlights to match the orange accents on the bodywork making it a place we’d like to spend some time. If you’re not as enamoured with the combination of orange, there are seven accent colour options. Incidentally, the Black Edition has the first application of black-tinted wings on a Bentley in 105 years.

The colour options for the accents and interior include Mandarin (the one we like as seen in the pics), Signal Yellow, Klein Blue, Pillar Box Red, Ice, Hyper Green, and Beluga. All of them pop just right on the dark bodywork. The exterior features a laser-like stripe on the Styling Specification body kit below the front bumper, along the side sills and across the top of the rear spoiler and the brake calipers are also colour-matched. To keep to the dark theme, all components that are shiny on other Bentaygas have been replaced with gloss black versions. The 22-inch wheels come in black as part of the package, and the final exterior detail is a Black Edition badge on the rear D pillar. Inside there’s a new carbon fibre weave on the fascia, centre console and waistrails and the accent colours can be found in the stitching, piping and sections of the leather trim. The seats feature a black S emblem, as expected. The new Dark Chrome pack is standard fare in the Black Edition, and so a lot of the interior metal detailing like the bullseye air vents, their organ stop controls and the centre vents are gloss black instead of chrome. The powerplant is serious, under the hood is Bentley’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that creates 404 kW with 770 Nm of torque that can send the sizeable SUV to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 290 km/h. The SUV can also be had in hybrid guise in the form of the Bentayga S Hybrid Black Edition and it features a 340 kW 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol engine with a 100 kW electric motor. This one can hit 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 254 km/h. Even though this is a premium SUV that costs silly, silly money, it’s still properly capable off-road and even has a 500 mm wading depth. Not that we’re ever likely to see one playing in the dirt unless it’s a press unit being tested for YouTube likes.

The Bentayga S Black Edition is a dark and svelte beauty that we rather like.
