THE WORKSHOP 5001 CUSTOM RESTMOD PORSCHE 911 IS ENGINEERING GENIUS

When a client allows you carte blanche to create a custom Porsche 911 restmod, then best you make something amazing. This is a classic hotrod Frankenstein of pure engineering genius.

This car started life as a stock 1972 Porsche 911 T. Nearly four decades later, it's a highly sought-after classic that Porsche aficionados treasure, it's "the holy grail".

Marlon, from Workshop 5001 managed to find one in 2017 and, after a trip to San Francisco, brought it back to his workshop. It was going to be his shop car but, with an abundance of other work, it sat gathering dust – until a client spotted it and commissioned them to create a once-off restmod for him.

That was the beginning of this hotrod's journey to becoming a custom legend. The 1972 car became a donor, receiving a 3.2-litre six-cylinder that was completely modified, with plenty of custom parts.

It also received light-weight body panels and bumpers, larger custom wheels front and back, cherry-picked suspension and a completely overhauled interior.

The final product is a lesson in engineering genius.

The interview with Marlon in the Carfection video below goes into detail of every part of this vehicle's creation. Press play to find out more and to see if you think it justifies its $1M price tag.
