VIDEO: LAMBORGHINI HURACAN PERFORMANTE SETS NEW NURBURGRING LAP RECORD
Lamborghini has been teasing its new hardcore Huracan Performante for weeks now. While we still have to wait until Geneva to see what it looks like, in the meantime the automaker has also been teasing the Performante’s prowess at the Nurburgring, hinting at a possible new record. And now we have the answer. Yes, you guessed it: the Lamborghini Huracan Performante has set a blistering new production car lap record at the Nurburgring, beating the Porsche 918 by a considerable margin.
What time did it set, you may ask? Okay, we won’t keep you in suspense any longer: the Lamborghini Huracan Performante raced around the ‘Ring in six minutes and 52.01 seconds. If you don’t believe us, you can watch the Performante’s record-breaking lap in all its glory driven by Lamborghini’s test driver Marco Mapelli.
To put the time into perspective, that’s five seconds faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder, which set the previous production car record. Wow. Lamborghini has yet to reveal the performance specs that allowed the Huracan Performante to set this astonishing lap time. It is, however, said to be 220 pounds lighter than the current Huracan thanks to its new carbon fiber composite components, and its 5.2-liter V10 engine will reportedly produce between 625 – 640 horsepower and over 413 lb-ft of torque. The Performante’s clever active aero technology will also have played a part, where flaps in the front splitter intake and rear wing open and close to reduce drag and increase top speed.
