VIDEO: WATCH A SUBARU WRX STI LAP THE 'RING AS FAST AS A PORSCHE 918

Subaru's race-prepped WRX STI ran the Nurburgring at a supercar's pace – conquering the full 12.8 miles of The Green Hell in just 6 minutes, 57.5 seconds!

This means that the modified Subaru sits at the top of the Nurburgring's list of the fastest four-door sedans to run around the Nordschleife. While it is far from a production vehicle, the WRX STI Type RA NBR Special is almost as fast as a Porsche 918 Spyder around the 'Ring! The same Subaru also holds the record for the fastest car around the Isle of Man!

Subaru had tried to break the record around the 'Ring earlier this year, but the attempt was rained out – even with rain tires. However, Subaru promised a return trip, and this time the weather agreed. The driver, Richie Stanaway, pushed the Subaru to its limits, hitting a top speed of 179mph during the attempt!

The Subaru's time of 6 minutes and 57.5 seconds puts it just a half of a second away from the Porsche 918. It does, however, make it faster than the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV, the Dodge Viper ACR-Extreme and a Nissan GT-R Nismo.
