DE TOMASO RETURNS WITH AN 888 HP, 900 KG HYPERCAR IN THE FORM OF THE SUPER STYLISH P900

De Tomaso has to be the coolest name for an automaker. It has to be said in an Italian accent the same way your wife says ‘Antonio Banderas’. They’ve had some great cars over the years, the most well-known being the Pantera. It’s not uncommon for one to be seen and confused with a Lamborghini Countach. There have been a couple of other race-bred cars from their stable too like the Vallelunga and the P70. In 2019 we saw the reimagined and modernised P72 that was created to celebrate a 60th anniversary. Since then the Italian automaker has been working on something new, and it’s just been revealed. While the automaker is well-known, this new car called the P900 is one of those models that will have the automotive press and fanatics talking for years. The P900 is an evolution of the P72, but it’s lighter, faster, better looking and not suitable to be driven on the road. So what you see here is a track-oriented De Tomaso that not only looks the part but has the bite to match the bark - and then some.

The De Tomaso P900 is a lightweight track car that tips the scales at just 900 kg (dry weight), which is where the 900 nomenclature stems from. It also sort of refers to the car’s power output that’s as near as damn to 900 hp, claimed at 888 hp. This comes from a 6.2-litre V12 powerplant that can rev to an amazing 12 300 rpm and that means the car will have one of the best soundtracks of any car, ever. Power goes to the rear wheels only via a specially developed Xtrac paddle shift gearbox. De Tomaso also has a new initiative that shows the automaker’s commitment to a zero emissions future and so the plans are to have the P900 also able to perform on the synthetic fuel technology. The styling suggests the car will be able to enter some of the modern race series that we also see other supercar and hypercar automakers compete in. While it’s clearly modern, there are styling cues that give a nod to the futuristic-looking cars of the 60s and 70s. It really is something that you can’t help but to stare at. The automotive world has to patiently wait for the full list of specs and features, here at SXdrv we're very interested in the performance figures because the P900 certainly has the wight recipe for it to be a ridiculously fast car.

Take a look at the YouTube video that shows off all the amazing curves and lines, minus all the details for now, of the latest creation to leave the De Tomaso stables. We'd love to see a longer, more detailed video but for now this short highlight reel will have to keep us satisfied: De Tomaso P900 World Premiere | De Tomaso Automobili
