MASERATI STEPS UP AS OFFICIAL SAFETY AND LEADING CAR SUPPLIER FOR THE 2025 GT WORLD CHALLENGE EUROPE - HOW HOT?
Maserati is back on the international racing stage in more ways than one. In an exciting new partnership with SRO Motorsports Group, the Italian marque will serve as the official Safety Car and Leading Car provider for the entire 2025 season of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS. This high-profile role will be carried out by two machines that perfectly showcase Maserati’s performance pedigree and racing heritage. The Maserati GT2 Stradale, a road-going version of the brand’s championship-bred GT2 racer, takes on the critical role of Safety Car. Drenched in Nero Pastello paint and packing serious heat from its twin-turbo 3.0-litre Nettuno V6, it rockets from 0–100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, topping out at 324 km/h. It’s a track weapon with license plates, and it’ll lead the charge when things need calming down on the circuit. Joining the GT2 Stradale is the Maserati MC20, chosen as the 2025 Leading Car. Finished in Bianco Pastello, the MC20 blends advanced aerodynamics with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and the same potent Nettuno powerplant. It’s as striking as it is fast - the perfect car to set the pace for the field when racing gets underway. This collaboration strengthens the already rich history between Maserati and SRO. The Trident brand dominated the GT1 era with the legendary MC12 and recently marked its return to competitive GT racing with the GT2, which quickly established itself in the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli. In 2025, Maserati isn’t just leading the field from the front - it’ll also be competing in the GT2 class with entries in both the Pro-Am and Am categories.
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse, summed it up perfectly: “We’re roaring into our first role as official Safety Car and Leading Car throughout the 2025 season of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS. From the road to the track and back again: this is our story. Going from GT2 racing to its road version was a natural step, to embody our brand’s performance, now returning to the grid not only to compete, but also in this essential role.”
Stéphane Ratel, SRO founder and CEO, added: “I am proud to present Maserati as the new Safety Car and Leading Car supplier. This agreement adds a new dimension to our long-standing association. The GT2 Stradale and MC20 are world-class machines, and I’m confident they’ll rise to the challenge.”
What’s the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS? It’s one of the most competitive GT racing series on the planet, featuring a multi-class grid filled with top-tier factory teams and privateers. The championship is split into two key formats: Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup, with the latter including iconic long-distance races like the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa. The 2025 season kicked off on the weekend of 12–13 April at Circuit Paul Ricard with a six-hour Endurance Cup race that ran well into the night. These races are amazing, they include some of the fiercest GT3-spec machinery from the world’s most elite manufacturers like the Ferrari 296 GT3, the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), the BMW M4 GT3, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo and the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo. If you don’t watch it, you should start!
