REP WHEELS VS ORIGINAL - ARE REP WHEELS WORTH IT?
Are Rep wheels worth getting over the originals?
Regardless if you're a drifty boy, street roller, track racer or a stance kind of person, we all have to agree on one thing, aftermarket wheels are loved by everyone. For a lot of people, getting a brand new set of wheels is the first mod to do to your new car and the wheel industry is booming as a result.
So the time has come for you to start shopping around for your next set of dishes and you finally stumble on that perfect design and fitment, you have been daydreaming about rolling the streets on them, cleaning them on Saturday afternoons before a show and essentially love is in the air...but then reality kicks in when you see the price tag.
That is one of the major factors that convince people to opt for a rep wheel over the originals as they are far cheaper. Another factor that might convince you to go for a rep over an original wheel is because the originals are not in production anymore, or that the original wheel doesn't exist for your specific size PCD pattern which is why there is a huge market for rep wheels in the first place.
But just how bad are rep wheels? Well, that's the same as asking how long a piece of spring is. It depends on the brand, the design and so forth. At the end of the day, rep wheels are not all that bad, but it depends on what you intend to do with them.
Rep wheels also have to go through a certain amount of certification before they are legally allowed to be sold to the public. If you are intending to change up your wheels for daily calm driving then a rep is perfectly fine. Original aftermarket wheels justify their price for a number of reasons. They have a lot of research and development that goes into their production, they can also be a multi-piece design and forged as well which makes them ultra-strong and durable and incredibly lightweight as well. If you intend on using your new set of wheels for performance driving, there is no doubt that you will need a set of fresh originals!
