NEW SNEAKY ACCESS SHOWS SOME OF THE MADNESS THAT IS THE SULTAN OF BRUNEI'S 7,000 CAR COLLECTION.
There’s long been a legend of the world’s biggest car collection, owned by the infamous Sultan of Brunei. There have been loads of news pieces on the man and his car collection that defies logic, but footage of the massive collection is quite rare. The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, isn’t just a ruler - he’s a living legend in the automotive world thanks to owning a car collection that’s less a garage and more an automotive kingdom. The collection is estimated to consist of a whopping 7,000 cars, and they’re reportedly valued at over $5 billion. If you combine all the elite car collectors out there, it would only make up a percentage of the Sultan’s collection, which is hard to wrap your mind around. The Sultan doesn’t just collect cars; he commissions bespoke creations and sometimes he buys loads of the same thing, because he can. His collection also includes dozens of one-offs and prototypes designed exclusively for him. You know you’re a big deal when a mainstream automaker stops what they’re doing to create a bespoke model just for one man. Take the Ferrari Mythos, a concept car that was never intended for production and that most of us have only seen it on posters, yet he owns a pair of them. His fleet includes six Bentley Dominators SUVs built years before luxury SUVs were even a thing. The Sultan owns several 24-karat gold-plated Rolls-Royces including a Silver Spur II limousine used for royal ceremonies. It’s said to be the most expensive Rolls-Royce ever built.
When McLaren released the iconic F1, only 106 were made, and yet the Sultan owns at least 10 of them. From ultra-rare Jaguars like the XJ220 Pininfarina Edition to a rumoured 12 Aston Martin One-77s (out of 77 ever built), his collection reads like a supercar fantasy. He even has Ferrari and Lamborghini models that don’t officially exist like a Ferrari FX built with Formula 1 tech for his personal use. For years, rumours swirled about his secret collection, but few had seen it. A mechanic who once worked for the Sultan described warehouses filled with pristine cars, some still in their factory wraps, collecting dust under the tropical sun. Another story involves the Sultan commissioning hypercars with custom specifications, only to have them parked and never driven. With such an enormous fleet, maintenance is a challenge, even for someone with royal resources. Mechanics and specialists are flown in from around the world, but many cars have reportedly fallen into disrepair over the decades. However, new video footage shows that parts of the collection are alive and well, showcasing cars in pristine condition. As you’ll see in the video, there’s not really any rhyme or reason to the cars in the collection. It’s pretty much how we’d buy cars if we were worth over $30 billion. We’d scroll through the interwebs and just buy cars as if we were filling an Amazon cart.
