THE SUPER-HOT ASTON MARTIN VALHALLA FINALLY SET FOR LIMITED PRODUCTION IN Q2 OF 2025.
The Aston Martin Valhalla is the first series production mid-engined supercar and first plug-in hybrid, and also the first model to use the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre flat-plane crank V8 engine coupled to an all-new 8-speed Dual Clutch Transmission that incorporates an e-Motor and electronic rear differential. For Aston Martin CEO, Adrian Hallmark, Valhalla expresses the future vision for the ultra-luxury performance brand; “Four years ago we set out on a journey to transform the Aston Martin brand by taking its historic and unmatched luxury credentials and adding cutting-edge F1® inspired technology and class-leading performance, with the aim of taking on the most successful brands in the world. With the next generation of sportscars launched to critical acclaim, we are now adding the first ever mid-engine series production Aston Martin to our portfolio, the ultimate driver’s supercar. On paper and on-track Valhalla delivers the most driver-focused, technologically advanced supercar, with true hypercar performance and yet on the road it is as useable and enjoyable as any Aston Martin. A unique proposition, designed to be the most elegant and exciting product in the market. We learned to think differently from developing the ultimate hypercar, the Aston Martin Valkyrie and working with Adrian Newey. This knowledge and new methodology have allowed us to build on the strengths of our past successes and position Aston Martin as a class-leading company in technology, performance and experience for our customers who will be the custodians of this new piece of Aston Martin history, Valhalla.”
There’s a heck of a lot going on in this car, but as usual, we’re just interested in the powerplant and the resulting performance - which most certainly lives up to the hype. The Valhalla’s twin-turbocharged 4.0 flat-plane V8 is the ICE base for the power-making part of the car, and it’s mated to a trio of electric motors two of which drive the front axle and they contribute 185 kW to the overall power figures. The petrol-drinking part of the equation pushes out a healthy, 609 kW. With all the power combined, the Valhalla pushes out a best-in-class 794 kW with a stonking 1100 Nm of torque. The ICE component alone produces 152 kW/litre, the highest specific output from any Aston Martin. The powertrain is paired with Aston Martin’s all-new 8-speed DCT transmission that directs the majority of power to the rear axle. The 3rd electric motor is integrated into the transmission. Aston Martin claims the Valhalla will be capable of some pretty mad performance, including the usual benchmark 0-100km/h shunt in as little as 2.5 seconds, and it can run on to a massive top speed of 350km/h. Helping the car remain stable at these speeds is an active aero system that is capable of generating more than 600 kg of downforce that’s available from 240 km/h right through to that 350 km/h top speed. In electric-only mode, drive comes from the front-axle motors alone and it gives the Valhalla a range of 14 km and a top speed of 140km/h. For Aston Martin’s Director of Vehicle Performance, Simon Newton, developing Valhalla has been a unique and rewarding journey: “The challenge for the engineering and vehicle dynamics teams has been to harness, for the first time, the immense power of Valhalla’s hybrid powertrain through a combination of active aerodynamics and integrated dynamic control systems. With 1079PS and 1100Nm, extraordinary performance is a given. The challenge is achieving next-level speed, precision and exhilaration on track while retaining the characteristics of an enjoyable and highly emotional supercar when driving on the road. It’s this unprecedented dynamic bandwidth that separates Valhalla from its class rivals”.
