THE BESPOKE MERCEDES-AMG PURESPEED IS AN ODD THING, BUT MASSIVELY COOL.

The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is an amazing celebration of Mercedes-Benz’s deep-rooted motorsport legacy, blending cutting-edge F1 technology, innovative materials, and a race-inspired design. Limited to just 250 units, this exclusive model marks the debut of the Mythos series, unveiled at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. As a no-compromise, fully open two-seater with no roof or windscreen, the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed delivers a driving experience that’s nothing short of unforgettable. Its design is a masterstroke of aerodynamics and aesthetics, with a low silhouette, an elongated bonnet, and a striking shark nose. The front end, featuring a wide air intake, AMG badging, and a dark chrome Mercedes star, mimics the design cues of the next-level Mercedes-AMG ONE. Aerodynamics continue with precision-engineered deflectors and a sculpted bonnet. The car’s lower section is crafted from exposed carbon fibre, contrasting with the curvaceous upper body. Aerodynamic enhancements also extend to the boot lid and rear diffuser, specifically designed to optimize performance in the absence of a roof. Meanwhile, the 21-inch forged aluminium wheels feature carbon fibre covers, with the rear wheels fully enclosed to minimise drag - the open front covers aiding brake cooling and front-end airflow. In a nod to Formula 1, the PureSpeed features a HALO safety system in place of a traditional A-pillar. This tubular steel structure converges behind the occupants for added protection and integrates seamlessly with the car’s shell structure.

Further enhancing the experience, Mercedes-AMG has designed bespoke helmets in the car’s colour. These helmets feature an integrated intercom system, allowing the driver and passenger to be able to chat about the latest changes to the upcoming 2025 Formula 1 season while pinning the lond pedal flat to the monocoque. These helmets can also be paired with smartphones, which means they can act as a hands-free phone system or stream your latest YouTube Music playlist. It has to be said that it is quite a weird thing to have to wear a helmet when you’re cruising city streets in a street-legal car. Also, helmets automatically give you raceface and puffy cheeks, so anyone you give a nod to at the robots will likely wet themselves with laughter, even if you’re driving a 1/250 AMG that will likely cost a few million Rands. Under the hood, you’ll find the usual AMG awesomeness - that twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, which in this instance has been tuned to deliver a rather tasty 430 kW and 800 Nm of torque. This enables the PureSpeed to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 315 km/h. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission with a wet starting clutch ensures lightning-fast gear changes, while the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system delivers impeccable grip and handling. “The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is the most direct way to experience performance and fun at the wheel. Thanks to the car’s radically open design with no roof or windscreen, nothing separates the driver and passenger from the elements, allowing them to fully appreciate the vehicle, the road and the landscape with all their senses. The striking design reinterprets elements of legendary racing cars and makes for a fascinating, timeless silhouette. In this way, the PureSpeed bundles the traditional strengths of AMG: highly emotional and very high-performance vehicles that inspire – at a glance and behind the wheel.” says Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Take a look at the YouTube video that shows off all the cool bits about the odd but awesome AMG PureSpeed. We just love those halo-inspired rollover protection bars. Will be a bit strange kicking off to the local market with a helmet on but arriving in an AMG though: Walkaround | Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed | Mercedes-AMG
